The tradeoff to know
Bolton's night schedule is not the same as daytime access. At Smuggs, avoid winter Route 108 routing over the Notch when comparing lodging or travel times.
A weekend at Bolton Valley
Start on groomed terrain before exploring the glades; backcountry terrain requires appropriate equipment and experience.
Where to base yourself
Stay in Burlington for restaurants and city comforts, or near the base for a shorter morning.
Night skiing operates on selected dates and trails. Check the resort schedule.
A weekend at Smugglers' Notch
Morse is the natural starting point for learners; more experienced skiers can explore Madonna and Sterling.
Where to base yourself
The resort village is convenient for lessons and family activities; Jeffersonville provides nearby alternatives.
Route 108 through the Notch closes in winter. Do not plan a drive over the pass from Stowe.
