Our experience there
In our opinion, Bolton Valley is one of the absolute best hidden gems in Vermont if you are trying to escape the massive crowds. Bolton gives you that authentic, old-school local feel with a surprisingly great variety of terrain. If you like tree skiing, the glades here are fantastic, and they get some serious natural snowfall. One of the coolest parts about Bolton is that they offer night skiing, which is a rare treat for Vermont mountains and makes for an awesome late-afternoon-into-evening session. It is super family-friendly, relatively affordable, and has a great laid-back vibe in the lodge with real wood stoves. The main trade-off is that their lifts are older and slower, and the snowmaking setup isn't as massive as the bigger corporate spots, but for zero lift lines and pure Vermont charm, Bolton is tough to beat.
